Jarden Westchester Triathlon and Athletes for a Fit Planet have teamed up with NativeEnergy to offset athlete travel to and from this year’s race.When you buy a $3 FitPlanet tattoo or sticker you offset the equivalent of 300 lbs of greenhouse gas emissions (AKA GHGs). That equates to about 300 miles of driving, give or take a few miles depending on your miles per gallon.
It’s important to know that offsetting doesn’t actually mean you reduce carbon emissions. Instead, offsetting means that you fund a project to remove the equivalent amount of GHGs from the atmosphere that you produce, thus balancing your emissions. .
Each FitPlanet tattoos or stickers you buy will be earmarked specifically for the Colonie Landfill Gas-to-Energy project http://www.nypa.gov/ar02/annual02web/pages/pg4_1.htm. http://www.nypa.gov/ar02/annual02web/pages/pg4_1.htm
. This project converts methane, which would otherwise excape into the atmosphere, to energy that one or more utilities then buy to power homes and businesses. To offset athlete travel to and from the Jarden Westchester Triathlon, Athletes for a Fit Planet estimates the race needs to offset approximately 300,000 lbs of GHGs. That equates to about 1,000 FitPlanet tattoos and stickers to offset all GHG emissions from athlete travel. Last Altheus Training Ride
THIS SUNDAY Sept 7th at 8am Sharp
A quick reminder to everyone that this Sunday, September the 7th Altheus will be hosting the last training ride for the JardenWestchester Triathlon. This is a great chance to get a guided look at the course in anticipation of race day on the 21st of September. The ride departs from Altheus at 2 Clinton Ave in Rye NY at 8am sharp. Please arrive 15-20minutes early to sign waivers, pick up a cue sheet and some pre-ride drinks and food. Riders will be broken up into groups based on ability levels and then will head out to ride the bike course for the 2008 Jarden WestchesterTriathlon. Come back to Altheus afterward for some post ride food and drink as wellas great deals on cycling and triathlon merchandise! Altheus coaches and expert riders will also be on hand before and after to answer questions about cycling and triathlon training and racing
